NEW LONDON, CT. (WFSB) - Hundreds of thousands of Connecticut residents are waiting for their November SNAP benefits as a court battle continues over delayed payments, prompting an emergency food drive Friday at a New London ShopRite.
The City of New London partnered with the United Way to collect shelf-stable food items for families affected by the benefit delays. Organizers are seeking donations of peanut butter, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, and ramen.
More than 360,000 people in Connecticut who rely on SNAP are waiting to see if money is put on their cards. A judge ruled Thursday that the Trump administration needs to provide full benefits by Friday, but the administration immediately appealed that ruling.
