The Department of Transportation announced that flights will be reduced by 4% Friday, with plans to gradually increase reductions to 10% by next Friday, potentially affecting up to 4,000 domestic flights daily. International flights will not be affected.
The Federal Aviation Administration stated that these measures are necessary to maintain safety as air traffic controllers continue to work without pay during the shutdown. If a flight is canceled, airlines are required to issue full refunds but are not obligated to cover secondary costs.
