Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita has filed a lawsuit against Indianapolis Public Schools, alleging that the district’s policies and actions regarding immigration law enforcement violate state and federal law.
The lawsuit , filed with the Marion Superior Court on Nov. 6, also claims that the district’s actions during one incident in January prevented federal immigration enforcement from deporting an undocumented immigrant.
The lawsuit specifically points to a resolution adopted by the IPS board in 2017 that lists policies like “IPS employees shall not assist immigration enforcement efforts unless legally required and authorized to do so by the Superintendent.”
