After a fire at homeless encampments below U.S. 90 closed the Earhart Boulevard on-ramp, authorities will clear encampments below key infrastructure, according to Louisiana State Police Troop NOLA.

The fire started over the weekend and created structural issues that required the indefinite closing of the ramp. DOTD officials told Fox 8 it could reopen by next Friday, but repairs could take much longer in a worst-case scenario.

As the weather finally cools down in New Orleans, concern about fires at encampments has grown. DOTD officials told Fox 8 the weekend fire was the third reported encampment fire in just over a week, with two near Carrollton Avenue and Interstate 10.
