BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) - Fire departments across North Dakota are beginning a major upgrade in how they report and analyze emergency incidents, as the State Fire Marshal’s Office announced the statewide rollout of the National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS).

NERIS, a secure cloud-based platform, replaces the decades-old National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) and is designed to streamline data collection, enhance operational insights, and support smarter decision-making. The system is being deployed nationally by the U.S. Fire Administration, the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate, and the Fire Safety Research Institute at UL Research Institutes.
