WATERVILLE, Maine — The Waterville Police Department is encouraging families of people who are at risk of wandering to enroll in a program designed to help first responders quickly locate them in an emergency.

The program, known as The Wanderer’s Database, allows families to submit current information and a recent photograph of a loved one who may wander due to conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, autism, or other mental health conditions. The database gives officers crucial details that can help them identify and safely approach a person if they go missing, Waterville police said in a social media announcement about the program .
