Death threat to Indian journalist came from Canadian number

The terrifying calls were placed from a Canadian telephone number to Rana Ayyub , a prominent journalist in India.

The unidentified caller did not have a question, but rather an outrageous and terrifying command: write a column in the Washington Post glorifying the Sikh assassins of former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi for the 41 st anniversary of her killing.

Write it, or prepare to be killed herself.

Ayyub, is a frequently threatened journalist, a contributing opinion writer for the Washington Post and an author who, in 2024, was awarded the International Press Freedom Award by Canadian Journalists for Free Expression , a group that advocates for media rights.
