The Soldotna Police Department is urging residents to stay alert for scams as the holidays approach, following a report of a woman who was defrauded of thousands of dollars by a caller posing as an investigator.

Police say the incident occurred on Wednesday, October 29, when an elderly woman reported making several transactions totaling thousands of dollars to a man who claimed her identity had been stolen.

The caller identified himself as an investigator and convinced her that the payments were necessary to resolve the issue.

Sergeant Derek Urban says there have been other reports of similar scams and is urging residents to stay alert.
