ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Rochester Public Works Department is reminding property owners to clear snow from sidewalks and paths within 24 hours of snowfall to ensure pedestrian safety.
Snow-covered sidewalks pose risks, especially to older adults and those with mobility challenges. The Rochester Code of Ordinances requires snow and ice removal from sidewalks within 24 hours. For wider pathways, a clearance of at least five feet is needed.
To avoid citations, property owners should clear snow promptly. Failure to do so may result in a $40 fine and removal costs. Complaints will lead to inspections and potential penalties.
Residents can collect free salt/sand mixtures at two locations: behind the Fiesta Café in Northbrook Shopping Center and at the end of 1 Avenue SW near the former YMCA
