A 23-year-old man died after crashing a speeding motorcycle on H-1 in Kaimuki late Thursday night, police said.

At about 10:45 p.m., the motorcyclist was traveling east on H1 “at a high rate of speed when he lost control and collided into the guardrail,” according to a news release from the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said paramedics responded to the scene near 6th Avenue and assisted with the death pronouncement at the scene.

Police said speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to HPD.

This was Oahu’s 74th traffic fatality this year compared with 41 at the same time in 2024.
