PORTLAND, Ore. — Gov. Tina Kotek announced Friday that 750,000 Oregonians will receive their full November SNAP benefits despite the ongoing federal government shutdown.
A federal judge ordered the Trump administration to fully fund November's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program by Friday after several states sued. The administration on Friday asked a federal appeals court to block that order, arguing it would require spending more than what remains in a contingency fund.
The filing came as Oregonians told KGW they had already received their full SNAP payments.
Kotek said the Oregon Department of Human Services, which administers SNAP, worked quickly with its electronic benefits transfer (EBT) vendor to make funds available as soon as the court order was issued.
