WASHINGTON, D.C. (KFYR) -The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe filed an appeal challenging the continued operation of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), located a half mile north of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe reservation boundaries.

The tribe claims the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is not following federal law because the pipeline is operating without proper documentation. The Tribe’s legal challenge, initially filed on Oct. 14, 2024, argues that the pipeline continues to operate without an easement since 2020 and without a final environmental impact statement for nearly five years, in violation of federal laws, including the Mineral Leasing Act, the Clean Water Act and the National Historic Preservation Act.
