BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — Marine and Army veteran Mark Jones has broken a Guinness World record for the longest run in 24 hours, while carrying a 40-pound pack.
The run began Thursday at Prairie Fields Sports Park in Belvidere.
Jones said he hoped to raise awareness for the OSCAR MIKE Foundation, a local non-profit that supports injured and disabled veterans.
Jones set the record at 88.67 miles, according to OSCAR MIKE. He finished early Friday morning.
The previous record was set by Ebrahim Ataei from Iran, who ran 79.16 miles in June 2022.
