A Kent man is charged with conspiring to join overseas terrorist organization Islamic State, according to documents filed Wednesday in federal court in New Jersey by the FBI.

FBI agents allege Saed Ali Mirreh, 19, and his co-defendant, Tomas-Kaan Jimenez-Guzel, discussed through an encrypted messaging app traveling to Turkey this month to join ISIS as fighters. Mirreh, a U.S. citizen, allegedly bought a round-trip ticket from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to Istanbul to depart Nov. 16.

After other alleged co-conspirators were arrested in Michigan on Halloween, Mirreh moved up his flight to depart on Wednesday, according to charging documents. He was arrested Tuesday at his home in Kent. The people arrested in Michigan were charged with planning to carry out an armed terrorist
