INDIANAPOLIS — When he was a firefighter with the Indianapolis Fire Department, Ike Randolph used to collect newspaper clippings with stories and photos from the fires he fought. He wanted his daughters to see them one day and know what their dad did.
A newspaper clipping saved from 1992 always stuck out in his mind.
“Every fireman has had stories like this, of people they’ve saved that are kind of stuck in their mind,” Randolph said. “I’ve had a lot of runs, but there’s only two that really stick. This one and another one where a mom lost her three kids.”
On March 22, 1992, Randolph responded to a northeast side apartment fire. One person died and five others were injured. Randolph remembers it raining and it being a cold, March Saturday night.
