CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The longest federal government shut down in American history isn’t only impacting people... it’s also putting more financial pressure for those with pets.

Nearly 1.5 million civilian federal workers furloughed or forced to work without pay since the government shutdown on Oct. 1.

About 1.4 million Ohioans have also been without their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits since funding ran out on Nov. 1.

Amid this dire situation, there are numerous resources available to help Northeast Ohio pet owners who are struggling financially.

Below is a growing list of pet pantries and programs that may provide free and low-cost pet care.

“There is absolutely no shame in reaching out during times of hardship,” City Dogs Cleveland encouraged.
