PHOENIX — A man is in critical condition after an apartment fire in north Phoenix on Friday morning, according to the city's fire department.

Firefighters were called to the area of 27th Avenue and Indian School Road around 11 a.m. after getting reports of a structure fire.

Officials said that crews arrived on scene and found smoke coming from the first-floor unit of a two-story apartment complex.

Before Phoenix Fire arrived on the scene, two people entered the structure and pulled a 70-year-old man out to safety, officials said.

The man was reportedly taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The department said firefighters were able to knock down a kitchen fire quickly and assured that no other people were in the unit.

There were no other reported injuries.
