EUGENE, Ore. - Eugene's Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) camera system has been paused following a recommendation from the Eugene City Council, according to Eugene Police Department officials.

Authorities said that this pause comes amid ongoing public interest and discussions about the deployment and locations of these cameras. The Eugene Police Department (EPD) has decided to publish a map of ALPR camera locations in the city. This decision aligns with practices of other law enforcement agencies and is possible because the cameras are no longer active.

The EPD initially installed the ALPR system, but six cameras were replaced due to intentional damage before the system was deactivated.
