[WATERLOO, Iowa] — Waterloo schools are likely to face more staff cuts as the district navigates a challenging financial situation.
Superintendent Jared Smith informed school district employees of a three-year budget reduction process in an email obtained by KWWL.
Smith stated that the district plans to cut more than $20 million by the end of the 2026-2027 school year.
This year, enrollment dropped by more than 250 students, leading to a $2 million loss in state funding. Officials indicated that next year's budget might include further staffing reductions.
