Residents are advised to avoid contact with waterways in southern Jefferson County due to "potentially contaminated" runoff from the United Parcel Service plane crash, Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District officials said in a Nov. 7 social media post.
The UPS plane that crashed near the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport Nov. 4 and killed at least 13 people was carrying about 38,000 gallons of jet fuel, according to previous reporting from The Courier Journal . Louisville MSD announced in a social media post Nov. 5 that it began monitoring streams for harmful runoff shortly after the crash.
In the Nov. 7 post, Louisville MSD said the runoff is primarily in Pond Creek, the Northern Ditch and the Southern Ditch waterways.
