HOUSTON — The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay at both of Houston's major airports on Friday afternoon due to air traffic control staffing shortages, part of a broader disruption affecting air travel across the United States.

Both George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport experienced delays due to staffing issues, according to official FAA advisories and on-the-ground reports. The delays come as the nation's 40 biggest airports face significant flight reductions , with 4% of flights slashed as of Friday morning—a number that could rise to 20% in the coming weeks.
