SOUTHEAST BROOKLYN — ACTIVIST JIBREEL JALLOH filed Nov. 5 to run in next year’s Assembly District 59 Democratic primary, challenging incumbent Assemblymember Jaime Williams to represent areas of Canarsie, Mill Basin, Georgetown and Bergen Beach.
Jalloh is a founder of The Flossy Organization and an Obama Foundation Scholar at Columbia University. He indicated his campaign will focus on affordability and cost-of-living issues.
Williams is a conservative Democrat who has represented the district since 2016 and has faced criticism from progressives during her tenure for opposing the City of Yes zoning reforms and supporting Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa.
