Cameron Schmidt wants more responsibility with the Vancouver Giants. Parker Burgess seems willing to oblige.
Diminutive speedster Schmidt has started killing penalties for the Giants, and first-year bench boss Burgess also had Schmidt out on the ice in the waning seconds of Sunday’s 2-1 win over the Prince George Cougars at the Langley Events Centre. Schmidt blocked a shot from Cougars defenceman Carson Carels in a madcap scramble just before the final horn sounded.
Those haven’t been signature situations so far for Schmidt in his three seasons with Vancouver. Goal scoring has been his calling card, with 31 tallies as a rookie, 40 more last season, and 11 through 16 games this year after bagging the winner on a third-period breakaway Sunday.
Schmidt is also a mere 5-foot-8 and 158 pound
