TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local veteran was recently recognized as part of an Honor Flight.
She served her country as a nurse during the Vietnam War. Pamela Cox spent her career as a nurse, and from 1970 to 1971, she saved the lives of soldiers overseas. "It is my sincere honor to be a Vietnam veteran and the small part that I played. It was so small compared to the part that our soldiers have done for us," said Cox.
The 79-year-old was a surgery nurse at a field hospital in An Khe, Vietnam. She operated in a Quonset hut that consisted of three operating room tables with no divisions. As a field hospital, Cox said nurses had to think on their feet and improvise.
