Republican candidate Dianne Mitchell will have her name appear on a Dec. 23 general election ballot for the House District 21 seat after a mandatory recount.
Mitchell, former president of the Greenville Republican Women's Club, led the Nov. 4 special election runoff polls with 50.4% of the vote. Her competitor Steve Nail, dean of Anderson University's College of Business and Economics, earned 49.6% of voter support.
Since there was less that a 1% margin between Mitchell's and Nail's polling numbers, the race went into a mandatory recount.
The Greenville County Voter Registration and Election Office met at about 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 to conduct a recount. Ultimately, Mitchell came out on top after the ballots were reviewed. She received 1,536 votes compared to Nail's 1,516 — a difference o
