SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - The Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation is looking for seniors to help make a difference in the lives of young people.
OACAC runs a foster grandparent program .
Older residents who volunteer will be matched with a child or teen, and do the things a grandparent would do with grandkids. Organizers say it helps address two issues at once.
“It just really fixes two different, unique situations, which is that seniors can be active and happy and have that renewed sense of purpose. And the kids have somebody that they can see, you know, periodically,” said Christopher Bell, foster grandparent program director at OACAC. “Could be once a week or a few times a week, just to have that encouragement and love for school.”
