CRISP COUNTY, Ga. — A man is dead after a shootout with deputies near Crisp County High School on Friday afternoon, according to a report from the Crisp County Sheriff's Office.

The Crisp County Sheriff's Office says the deputies were notified about a “potential threat” and a suspect coming to the school to pick up a teacher.

The sheriff's office says they arrived at the school around 2:30 p.m. on Friday and made a perimeter to try and intercept the suspect. When the suspect arrived around 3:15 p.m., he fled on foot down Frontage Road toward an unoccupied shopping center, per the report.

The sheriff’s office says he then fired at deputies in the area, who returned fire. The suspect was killed in the shooting, per the report.
