GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) - Greenville city leaders are considering a new plan that would stop future businesses from staying open past midnight in parts of downtown.

Under the plan, existing downtown businesses would be allowed to keep their current hours. However, any new businesses that open would have to close before midnight. It’s a proposed rule that’s getting mixed reactions.

The “Downtown Entertainment Overlay District," is a proposed special zone for businesses that would not be allowed to serve alcohol after midnight.

It runs from East College Street and East McBee Avenue to the north and south, and East Spring and North Laurens streets to the east and west.

“I think the city just needs to put things on hold for a little bit and try to look into what’s going on,” said Dr. Barry
