TACOMA, Wash. — In Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood, a community center is helping feed thousands, offering up food and hope to people in need of assistance.

The Brotherhood RISE Center , a nonprofit that provides food and many other social services, makes it a goal to ensure services for essential needs, like food, are easy to access.

One example is outside the center, where there is a refrigerator stocked seven days a week with meals for people to grab. Inside, staff and volunteers prepare hot food for anyone in need, from families stretched thin to neighbors without a home.

“We talk about a one-stop shop for individuals to come and not lose hope once they leave,” said Calvin Noel, the Outreach Supervisor at the RISE Center.
