NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) - Tryon Palace is a major state historic landmark that attracts thousands of visitors each year to explore the state’s colonial history.
It’s made possible by the historic interpreter staff who help take visitors back in time to learn about colonial history in New Bern.
However, WITN received a tip that 22 out of 30 part-time interpreters were laid off in October.
When the executive director was asked about the layoffs, she initially refused to confirm.
“I’m not in a position to confirm or deny any of that, but great things are happening, and great staff are still on board,” Tryon Palace executive director Chrystal Regan said.
While touring the property with Regan, Secretary of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, a staff member was overheard express
