When a win guaranteed a spot in the Iowa high school football state semifinals and a trip to the UNI-Dome, Iowa City Liberty put together a 31-28 win over Southeast Polk in the state quarterfinals on Nov. 7.
The Lightning (9-1) advanced to the semifinals for the second year in a row, eliminating the Rams (6-4) before the state championship game for the first time since 2020.
"Team execution was amazing," said Liberty junior Pryor Reiners. "Everyone played their hearts out because we knew Southeast Polk was our rival from last (season). We lost to them in a tight loss and we wanted that."
