People have been urged to “call 999” if they spot a specific symptom on the skin as cases of a “deadly” disease are spreading in the UK. Health experts have issued a warning about meningitis, which can prove fatal.
In an update from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), it advised that young people are currently vulnerable to meningococcal meningitis, a specific type of meningitis, and septicaemia, which can be caused by the infection. Data from the UKHSA shows that cases of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) have increased since the Covid pandemic, while vaccine rates have dropped.
