It was messy, featured multiple lengthy scoring runs, and had all the intensity of a postseason game. But Oregon State men’s basketball hung on for a 76-73 win over University of Illinois Chicago on Friday night at Gill Coliseum.

The Beavers (2-0) were buoyed by a career night for Josiah Lake II: 22 points, eight rebounds, two assists and three steals. OSU overcame 21 turnovers to get the win. Matija Samar poured in 11 for the Beavers, and Johan Munch scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

OSU got off to a blistering start from three, hitting its first four attempts en route to a 12-2 lead. The Beavers were able to extend it to 20-4, but things quickly fell off the rails.
