The Mainland Regional High School football team’s three-year run as sectional champion nearly ended in stunning and spectacular fashion on Friday night, but a Burlington Township field goal attempt that sailed just wide right allowed the Mustangs to advance with a 15-13 victory.
The No. 4 seeded Mustangs will travel to face the winner of second-seeded Cedar Creek and third-seeded Pleasantville in an NJSIAA/Xfinty South Jersey Group 3 final next week. Top-seeded and No. 12 Burlington Township ended its season 10-1.
