ROMEO – When good things started happening for Romeo’s football team Friday night they didn’t just snowball. They turned into an avalanche.
It was an avalanche that buried a good Macomb Dakota team 56-0 on the Bulldogs’ home field. It was the first Division 1 district championship for Romeo since 2020. The Cougars had beaten the Bulldogs in the district finals in 2021 and 2022.
“This time of year anybody can beat anybody,” said Romeo coach Curt Rienas. “We challenged our kids to play together as a team tonight. That was the main focus. We had a lot of good things go our way.”
It started on the Bulldogs’ second possession of the game. They marched 80 yards in 13 plays and took eight minutes off the clock. The drive ended with a 17-yard pass from senior quarterback Sammy Nepa to sophomore
