Twenty-six recruits graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s Call/Volunteer Recruit Firefighter Training Program.
The graduates, who represent 12 fire departments, completed the program at the Department of Fire Services’ Bridgewater campus, according to a community announcement.
The program is designed to accommodate the schedules of firefighters who work or attend school full time, offering training on nights and weekends. It has been offered since 2003, with more than 3,000 call and volunteer recruits graduating since then.
Training is rigorous
The training program includes classroom instruction, physical fitness training, firefighter skills training and live firefighting practice. Graduates completed 240 hours of training and have met the national standards of NFPA 1
