Bhatkal: In a tragic incident, a 10th-grade student of New English School drowned in a lake on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Shashidhar Yogesh Moger (15), a resident of Venkatapur, Bhatkal. Although it was a holiday for the school, it is said that teachers had arranged a special class for Class 10 students.

After the class ended around 12:45 p.m., Shashidhar, along with a few of his friends, had lunch and then went to Zamarmatta Lake near Asarkeri for swimming. It is learnt that six students had gone to the lake, and while swimming, Shashidhar accidentally went into deep water and began to drown. One of his friends tried to rescue him but failed. Reports said that Shashidhar did not know swimming well, which led to his drowning.
