No one wore No. 19 after Larry Robinson left the Habs and no one has worn No. 79 since Andrei Markov left. Do you envision the Habs eventually retiring No. 79? Took them long enough to retire No. 19 for Big Bird
The Canadiens retired No. 19 for Robinson in 2007, 15 years after he retired from the NHL. Serge Savard, another member of the Canadiens’ Big Three on defence, had his No. 18 retired a year earlier, 23 years after he hung up his skates. Guy Lapointe, the third member of the Big Three, had to wait until 2014 to have his No. 5 retired — 30 years after he stopped playing.
Robinson, Savard and Lapointe are all Hall of Famers and definitely deserved to have their numbers retired with 19 Stanley Cup rings between them.
