The gruesome discovery was soon the talk of the 19th hole at New Jersey’s Hopewell Valley Golf Club.
A golfer had discovered an empty paint can just off the fairway on the seventh hole. Odd, he thought, before peering inside to see the head of a young woman. It was March 5, 1989.
Homicide detectives later determined the victim had been murdered by a monster on Feb. 20, 1989, at her home in East Meadow, NJ.
It would take 24 years to identify the slain woman – her killer had made sure of that.
The body had been dismembered with an X-Acto knife, and her teeth pulled and fingertips removed. The victim’s legs were dumped in Jefferson Township, New Jersey and found a month after her head, while her arms and torso were dumped into the fetid East River.
