SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -All residents are safe after a Springfield apartment complex caught fire Friday night.

The Springfield Fire Department says the fire occurred at Old Monterey Apartments on East Montclair Street around 6 p.m.

Firefighters said the people inside the complex got out unharmed, and the fire did not spread to more than one apartment. Crews put out the fire within minutes of it starting.

Del Jackson, a resident at the complex, described what he heard and saw.

“Out of nowhere, I got woken up to smoke, and my alarm kind of went off, and (I) just ran outside. All the firetrucks were just outside and rushing to the apartment,” said Jackson.

The Springfield Fire Marshal is now investigating what started the fire.
