Villagers have pledged £10,000 towards a fighting fund to oppose an unwelcome housing scheme - even before the application has been submitted.
Residents in Frittenden learnt of the proposal last month, when the promoters, Taylor Roberts Architects, held a consultation evening to launch their ideas.
But the scheme for 18 homes on the Bell Field off Mill Lane - which is within the Frittenden Conservation Area - has gone down like a lead balloon with villagers, who say the chosen site is “at the historic core of the village”.
They have already formed a fighting group named Hands Off Our Heritage.
Spokesman Brian Rees said: “A suggestion was made that the village should set up a fighting fund, to be used to seek expert opinion and within minutes, more than £10,000 had been pledged.”
