CLEVELAND, Ohio — Mentor defeated Olentangy Orange 3-1 on Saturday in the Division I girls volleyball state semifinal at Vandalia Butler High School, advancing to the state championship match for the second time in school history.

The match was the Cardinals’ sixth appearance in the state semifinals and first since 2007. They were state runner-up in 1998.

Sunday’s state final is 11 a.m. at Wright State University, where the Cardinals (22-5) will face Cincinnati Seton (27-0), the winner of Saturday’s other semifinal.

Mentor took the first set 25-17 after establishing early control. Melody Garrett delivered a solo block and a kill to help build a 5-2 lead, and Addi Keeper followed with two consecutive service aces that pushed the score to 18-9.
