MEMPHIS, Tenn. — As freezing temperatures move into the area, furloughed Mason, Tenn. volunteer firefighters are warning people to be extra careful.
In an online statement, the furloughed firefighters urged families to use space heaters safely due to Mason not having any active fire department response.
They say since other neighboring departments prioritize their districts first, additional help may not arrive in time.
The statement went on to address the recent aldermen vote to furlough the town’s entire fire department:
We are sorry that our board members have chosen political fights over public safety. Their refusal to resolve issues with the mayor has left this town vulnerable. This community deserves better. Until leadership chooses responsibility over politics, we remain sidelin
