STORRS, Conn. (WFSB) - This veterans day weekend, more than 1,000 people came together to salute those who have served our country.

The Husky Ruck and Run kicked off from the steps of UConn’s campus as the university honored one of their own who died in the line of duty.

More than 1,000 people ready to take on a 5K, 10K, or one mile walk to honor our veterans.

The event was organized seven years ago in honor of Kyle Milliken.

He was a member of UConn’s track and field team in the 90s before joining the navy seals.

He served 10 deployments and tragically died in the line of duty back in 2017 in Somalia.

That same year, UConn put this event together.
