CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- Despite a late run from an in-state foe, Illinois won its second game of the year at home.
The Illini hosted Illinois State on Sunday afternoon, taking an early 11-2 lead. Berry Wallace scored 14 points in the first half for a 37-31 lead at halftime.
Wallace continued to score in the second half, but a late surge from the Redbirds would cut Illinois' lead down to as few as two points. Illinois would hang on for a 75-65 win, Wallace finishing with 22 points and Gretchen Dolan right behind her with 18 points.
Illinois' first road test of the year comes Friday, facing Oregon State.
