SHELBURNE, Vt. (WCAX) - Lauren Alciati woke up Sunday morning to her first snowfall as a homeowner and realized she needed to prepare her house for winter.

“It was snowing and we have nothing so just trying to figure it out,” said Alciati, who lives in Shelburne. “First winter owning a house so we have no idea what we’re doing but we’re going to do our best.”

Alciati went to Aubuchon Hardware to find what she needed for winter preparation.

Christian Kight, assistant store manager at Aubuchon Hardware, said preparing and keeping your house updated for winter is crucial. He emphasized the importance of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors that are kept up to date.

Anything that uses gas, like stoves or heaters, can leak carbon monoxide.
