Jimmy Thelin has admitted he is not seeing the level of progression in his Aberdeen team needed at this stage of the season despite improvements in recent weeks.

The Scottish Cup winners were slow to get out of the blocks at the start of the campaign , with the winless league run hampering their ambitions.

But they have since lost just two of their last seven games in the Premiership and in Europe, leaving them eighth in the table and some 19 points off early leaders Hearts.

It is well below Pittodrie expectations and Thelin acknowledges that there needs to be a big improvement after the international break, the Record Sport reports.

Thelin said: "We are growing slowly. We are taking it step by step. When you play at home you want to win.
