AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - An injured hiker was airlifted to a hospital from a trail in Amherst County Sunday afternoon, November 9, 2025, according to Virginia State Police.
A little after 11:00 a.m., first responders were notified of an injured hiker near Pedlar in Amherst County along the Appalachian Trail; the hiker was unable to leave the remote location, according to VSP.
Troopers say a helicopter originating from Chesterfield County Airport took 54 minutes to arrive to the injured hiker; DOF crews helped clear a 40-by-60-foot opening in the tree canopy and paramedics from Amherst County assisted in the rescue.
The helicopter was lowered onto the ground despite windy and rainy conditions; the hiker was flown to a hospital.
