Shyel Mosely-Benton was fatally stabbed on Sunday, Nov. 2 in East Orange following an altercation outside a lounge in Newark, authorities said.
A fundraiser has been launched to support her family in the wake of her death.
"If you've ever been blessed to know Shyel in any capacity you know that she brings light into any room she steps in," Kanyce Terry said. "Her life was precious , her soul was beautiful and her presence brightened up any room she was in."
Mosely-Benton worked hard everyday to make life easier for her five-year-old son, according to the fundraiser.
Sabia Carter, a 28-year-old East Orange resident has been charged with aggravated manslaughter and multiple weapons offenses, police said.
As of Monday, Nov. 10, more than $9,000 has been raised.
