A man has been charged with animal cruelty after he was found to have more than 100 animals in his Edison home, Sunday, Nov. 9, authorities said.
At 12:47 p.m., officers responded to Stony Road West for a man who was having a medical issue, Edison police said. While on site, officers discovered numerous small animals throughout the house and in the basement.
Animal control and other departments responded and found 14 dogs, approximately 60 chickens, 34 rabbits, 9 pigeons, and other assorted birds, police said. The owner of the home, who has not been identified by police, was charged with animal cruelty.
Six of the animals, two chickens, two rabbits, one bird and one unidentified animal have died, police said.
The dwelling was condemned and vented and Edison Animal Control is making arrangements to shelter the animals, police said.
